Supreme Court’s Voting Rights Act Ruling

March 9, 2009

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Voting Rights Act is interpreted as only applying to congressional districts that have a 50-percent-or-more minority population.

This kinda deals a significant blow to states and districts who were hoping to pick their voters rather than the voters picking them.

Based on current accounts, New Hampshire stands to gain nothing in the form of additional congressional seats. That’d mean that we would continue to have two seats in Congress.
