Whether he’ll actually do it or not, Tony DiFruscia (R) Salem/Windham announced yesterday that he is leaving the Republican Party next week and will become an Independent. Let’s hope he follows through.

Bob Smith is ditching the Granite State for the Grapefruit League.

The former New Hampshire senator — who was waxed by John Sununu in the 2002 GOP primary — is planning to run for the seat being vacated by Republican Mel Martinez, according to Union-Leader’s John DiStaso.

Smith, who relocated to Sarasota and reinvented himself as a real estate exec, has gone down this road before — exploring a run against Martinez in ’04 before abandoning it for lack of fundraising cash.

In a letter to Republicans, Smith describes himself as a “proven conservative” — even though he backed John Kerry against W in 2004.

DiStaso:

“I have agonized as to whether to re-enter national politics,” Sarasota resident Smith wrote in a recent letter to friends and supporters.

“I have concluded that I can no longer ‘sit on the sidelines’ in this fight for the soul of America.”

He says he has filed the necessary papers with the Federal Election Commission and will have a website up soon.

And, “I am now accepting contributions,” he says.

“It’s time for Republicans to start acting like Republicans again!” wrote the man who a decade ago left the GOP, and then rejoined.

If you have been following this blog you will already know that our Grafton County Treasurer, Vanessa Sievers, does not show up regularly to sign weekly checks. Recently, we visited Sievers Facebook page and noticed a new profile picture. Yes, our very own Grafton County Treasurer has THIS new photo up on her Facebook page.

The recent change almost made us fall off our chairs and spit out our cornflakes! Obviously, missing a few check signings at the county wasn’t the only thing she did for spring break. If you have a Facebook account, I urge you to check out the new and improved Facebook photo for Vanessa Sievers. It will certainly raise a few eyebrows.

Oh, and Vanessa, if you are reading this…. so is your good friend Register of Deeds, Bill Sharp. Yikes! Now that’s just gross.

Rep Kathleen Taylor, Franconia, phone: 823-8158, filed a motion Monday to reconsider HB415 on April 8th when the full house reconvenes. HB415 is also known as the “Bathroom Bill”. It adds gender identity and expression to the language of the Human Rights Commission laws RSA 354. FYI: If you were to be brought before the commission on descrimination charges you would not be entitled to a jury.
